How To Choose a Trusted Plumber in Northampton

Picking the wrong one can cost thousands in repairs, void your boiler warranty, or — in worst cases — cause a CO leak. Here's the 7-point checklist I'd want my own family to use.
1. Gas Safe registration (non-negotiable for any gas job)
Every gas job in the UK legally requires a Gas Safe engineer. Ask for the card, check the photo matches the person, and verify the registration number on gassaferegister.co.uk before they touch the boiler. If they hesitate or refuse, walk away.
2. Local Northampton reviews
Look for genuine, recent reviews from local postcodes (NN1–NN18) on Google, TrustATrader and Facebook. A handful of vague 5-star reviews dated within a week of each other is a red flag. Look for detailed reviews mentioning real jobs and real locations.
3. Public liability insurance
Minimum £2 million public liability cover. Ask to see the certificate. If they flood your downstairs because of a botched fitting, your home insurance will want to claim against theirs.
4. Manufacturer accreditation

5. Written workmanship guarantee
Reputable plumbers offer at least a 12-month workmanship guarantee in writing. If something fails because of how it was fitted, they come back and fix it free.
6. Transparent fixed pricing
Reputable Northampton plumbers quote fixed prices in writing before starting work — not vague 'hourly rates'. You should know exactly what you'll pay before any tools come out of the van.
7. They actually answer the phone
